Fairfax, VT (October 15, 2003): GRIZCO Racing’s team owners, Steve and Peg Griswold, announced this week that the No. 55 Burnham Boilers race team will compete in the Toyota All-Star Showdown at Irwindale Speedway in California next month. The invitation-only event is open to the top-15 Grand National Division, Busch North Series teams. Driver Mike Stefanik of Coventry-RI piloted the team to a runner-up finish in the 2003 crown chase.
“We’re all very excited to attend this one-of-a-kind show,” Griswold said. “NASCAR and Irwindale Speedway have put a lot of effort into promoting this show, and we think it has the potential to be as big for touring divisions as The Winston is for the Winston Cup Series.”
“It’s the type of show that really displays the talent of the team and the driver since no points are involved,” continued Griswold. “You won’t have teams holding back because they’re looking at the bigger picture. Each driver is going to go for the checkers. It certainly will be an exciting race for the fans!”
The Grand National Division, which includes cars from the Busch North Series and the Winston West Series, will race a two-segment 125-lap race on Saturday night, November 8th and will be aired live on SPEED.
The first segment of the race will include 100 laps where the drivers of each series will be considered as a single “team”. Points will be awarded to each driver based on their position following the first segment, and the team with the best overall performance will receive a bonus award to be divided equally among the drivers. The Grand National Division will share $30,000.
Following a ten minute break, the cars will return for the final 25-lap segment where each driver vies for the checkered flag in traditional fashion. Total posted awards for the Toyota All-Star Showdown exceed $500,000.
