Richmond Pre-Race

Mike Stefanik Has Impressive Record at Richmond

By Dave Spaw

Denver, NC. 05/03/00 – The Coyne Textile Services Team will be competing in the NASCAR Busch Series "HARDEE’S 250" at Richmond International Raceway. Driver Mike Stefanik is looking for a little history to repeat itself this weekend. Mike has won three races in three different cars at Richmond, while competing in the NASCAR Modified Series. He also had an impressive run last year in the NASCAR Truck Series that could have turned into another win, until a broken sway-bar doused his hopes of his fourth win at this .75 mile track. He also held the overall track record for the fastest time that stood four years.

Mike and the CTS Team are not going to just rely on history though. The team left on Easter Sunday for Richmond, to spend Monday and Tuesday testing their new car, GTS 008, known as "Luther". By the end of the test the car had come a long way from where they started. Mike and the team learned a lot at the test and they are feeling pretty confident about this Friday’s race. Mike Stefanik felt comfortable in the car and is anxious to compete. " Richmond has been a good track for me in the past. I really think we have the opportunity for a good showing this weekend. The team has worked real hard to give me a good car and I really want to put another win in the records at Richmond." Car Owner Fred Maggio is also anxious for the results of this weekend. "Since our last race at Bristol, our team has been working hard not only for this race, but on our long-term team development plan. This race will be a test of our efforts. We’re showing up at this race very prepared and ready for the tough competition."
